Encodes the Stem Cell Factor Receptor KIT (CD117), which is a member of the tyrosine kinase receptor family and plays a critical role in the development of hematopoietic stem cells, melanocytes, and germ cells. Mutations in KIT are frequently associated with the development of leukemia, GIST, and melanoma, making it an important target in cancer research and therapy – for research and development in the context of leukemia, gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), stem cell biology, and targeted cancer therapy.
