Our Team

We’re a small team, and that’s by choice. At Nucleus Biotech, you won’t navigate through layers of sales reps or support tickets. Instead, you work directly with people who know the science, understand the products, and have spent years in the field. We stay lean so we can stay close – to new technologies, to our customers, and to what actually works in the lab.

Dr. Michael Ehret

Managing Director & Scientific Consultant

Michael has been in the biotech industry since 1986, working his way through Stratagene, Clontech and founding the BioCat GmbH in 2000 – a successful life science distributor he built and sold in 2017. But after nearly 20 years running BioCat, he realized he missed the direct customer contact and closeness to cutting-edge technologies. That’s why he founded Nucleus Biotech in 2020: to get back to what he loves – working hands-on with customers on challenging projects, advising on CRISPR screens, NGS workflows, liquid biopsy setups, and custom gene synthesis, and helping labs figure out which products actually fit their needs. When he’s not scouting for the next innovative technology, Michael is passionate about basketball and enjoys cultivating exotic plants in his garden – including banana trees that, despite his best efforts, haven’t produced edible fruit yet.

Elke Gamer

Product Manager

Elke studied biology and completed her PhD in 1993 in Heidelberg and Hamburg, followed by a PostDoc at the Institute of Human Genetics. From there, she made the move into the life science supplier industry – drawn to the variety, the customer contact, and the chance to work with a broader range of technologies and methods. Her first stop? Stratagene in Heidelberg, where she quite literally took over the desk from Michael. After Stratagene, she joined Hybaid, a supplier of enzymes, thermocyclers and PCR kits. When Michael founded BioCat, Elke came on board as employee number three. She stayed for 17 years, growing with the company, before joining Michael again when he founded Nucleus Biotech in 2020. When she’s not helping customers navigate their next experiment, Elke loves dancing – both ballroom and jazz/Zumba – hiking, and going for walks with her dog.

Partners & Technology Sources

We partner with companies developing the technologies we believe in—the ones solving real problems in genomics, screening, and diagnostics. Our job is to bring these advanced methods to labs across Europe and make sure you have the support and expertise to use them successfully

Based in Heidelberg, Serving Europe

Being based in Heidelberg puts us at the heart of one of Europe’s most vibrant life science ecosystems. We’re located in the Business Development Center, part of the Heidelberg Innovation Park, surrounded by young start-ups and innovative companies. This environment gives us direct access to cutting-edge developments like BioLiqX Small RNA-Seq for liquid biopsy analysis, developed by our local partner Heidelberg Biolabs. We also collaborate closely with core facilities like the DKFZ (German Cancer Research Center) for NGS sequencing services. Being embedded in this research-intensive community means we’re constantly connected to what’s happening in the field and can bring the most advanced methods to our customers quickly.

Our approach is guided by a few core principles: First, we believe in honest, direct consultation we’ll tell you upfront which kit or setup is the right fit for your experimental goals, even if it means recommending something simpler or more cost-effective. Second, we’re committed to close, ongoing support. We don’t just ship products; we stay engaged before, during, and after delivery, actively interested in how you’re deploying our tools and how your results turn out. Finally, we value scientific rigor and quality in everything we offer every product in our portfolio is there because we believe it solves a real problem and delivers reliable results.
